FEBRUARY MEETING NOTES

(Margaret helped with notes so Edie could take pictures and together hope this will be an improved newsletter.)

SHOW AND TELL

 TIP: Insul-Bright is a product to line bags, etc. to keep hot things hot (like irons when transporting to meetings) and cool things cool.

CHARITY QUILTS 

The Scrappy (9 patch) Quilt is finished a needs to be quilted. This quilt will be donated to the Medina Library and can be used as a fundraiser by them. 9-patch.jpg

 The Sail Boat Quilt needs a little more work and quilting. It will be donated to the Medina Volunteer Fire Department.

Donations were collected from members to pay for quilting these projects .

Thank you notes were received from the Medina Girl Scouts for the proceeds from the quilt top donated to them, and from the Medina Boy Scouts for the quilt donated to them as a fundraiser.

There was also a thank you note from Abby Mae for items collected to be forwarded to flood victims.

 ANNOUNCEMENTS: A sewing group will meet at Lou’s on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month from 10am to 4pm. Come and stay as long as you like, bring something to sew.

REMINDERS: 

Fat Quarter Trade at each meeting. Bring a fat quarter to trade or to go into the group stash for future donation quilts.

Please bring any extra greeting cards, get well, etc. and stamps to go into the group card stash so there will be a supply to send to members for special occasions. A get well card went out to Linda B in February.

Happy February Birthday to Eleanor and Delores!

Baby Quilt BOM Project. Those participating will receive 2 blocks for the first 3 months and then one block per month for 6 months. Cost is $2 per block or $24 for all blocks for a baby quilt top. See Tammy for blocks and payment. She brought the first two blocks to the meeting along with instructions for a simplified way to put them together.

PROGRAM: Maggie gave a great program on embellishing quilts. She brought several examples of her beautiful creations made out of scraps and odds and ends along with detailed information on putting all the pieces together. Resources Maggie recommends include The Quilter’s Directory of Embellishments by Sally Holman and Art Quilt Workbook by Jane Davila and Elen Waterson.

Maggie suggested a topstitch 90/14 needle for metallic thread. When you thread your machine do not put the thread through the last guide just above the needle. That will reduce the tension and reduce the risk of breaking the thread.
