PROGRAM: Edie will demonstrate construction of a folded square block. You will need a 12 1/2 inch block of base material (muslin) and your choice of three fabrics that coordinate but contrast with each other. Fabric A cut 5 5 inch squares. Fabric B cut 8 5 inch squares, 4 5 3/4 inch squares and 4 7 inch squares. Fabric C cut 8 5 3/4 inch squares. You will also need needle and thread, pins, a marking pencil and small ruler and your sewing machine if you want to machine piece. Edie will bring an iron and if anyone else has an iron to bring it will help the process. This is a fun block that lends itself to hand work.
March fat quarter is green.
FEBRUARY MEETING NOTES
Joyce brought her Swedish Weaving Afgan to remind us that we have a special Saturday workshop planned for the last Saturday in March. We will meet at the Library at 10am on Saturday March 29th to learn this technique.
Be sure and mark your calendar to come.
Tammy brought a quilt top made with beautiful jelly roll fabrics.
and she had put together 5 starter quilts for group members to add to and then pass on in a round robin until they are large enough to donate to individual or organization of choice. Several members took these home to start and will bring to the next meeting.
Donna brought her first Block of the Month from Gone Quilting in Bandera.
Maggie talked about a class she took at the Houston Quilt Show on Kalidescope Beading. The block she brought is beautiful.
Edie had two sample blocks for the Medina Group Block of the Month. The theme for this year is star blocks and a technique for making them that uses squares and rectangles so there are no Y seams. Please bring your blocks to the March meeting so we can see how different they are with each member’s fabric choices.
This is one of the blocks for February.
Then the meeting really got interesting as Tammy demonstrated strip piecing using Theresa’s focus fabric and many other fabric choices to alter the impact of the focus fabric.
This is what we started with. Everyone had an opportunity to work on this program.
Come to the March meeting to see how this worked out.
